What brought you to Greenville?
I moved to Greenville in September of 2001 when I was hired by GE Power Systems (now GE Vernova) as a mechanical design engineer designing components for gas turbines used in the power generation industry.
How long have you been cycling?
I got my first big kid bicycle, a chopper, for my 5th birthday. In middle school I got into BMX riding and eventually started road cycling after high school in late 1993 when I got my first road bike, a Team Banana Raleigh.
How do you benefit from your Greenville Spinners membership?
Even before I was a Greenville Spinners member, I benefited from access to the Tuesday night rides that allowed me to connect with other cyclists before the age of social media. Today as a member, I enjoy benefits such as supplemental medical coverage during club-sponsored events (which fortunately I have never had to use), participation in club time trials and charity events at reduced to no cost, discounts at local bike shops and the opportunity to lead group rides. Whenever I ride from SCTAC/Donaldson Center, I am always appreciative of the portable bathrooms maintained there year-round by the Greenville Spinners.
How would you describe the cycling community in Greenville?
The cycling community in Greenville is one that has been dynamic over the years yet always vibrant. Between the clubs, bicycle shops and availability of organized events there are plenty of opportunities for cyclists new to the area to easily meet and connect with other cycling enthusiasts. The growth of cycling’s influence is visible through expansion of the Swamp Rabbit Trail, creation of bike lanes on newer or remodeled roads, races held in and around the area as well as the general growth of cycling participation at all speed, and age-groups.
